Hey, it’s Amy…
I will admit, I like a New Years Resolution – 10! Or, rather, I like the idea of writing lists, making goals, fresh starts… Might we forget them in a few months (or days)? Sure. But, I think it feels good to think about how to make life more fulfilled, happier or efficient.
Now, if you are someone who doesn’t like setting goals and making resolutions – DO NOT DO THEM. If all they do is make you feel bad about yourself? It’s okay. You will grow anyway. I heard someone say, “No matter what, like a plant, you will grow with enough water and sunlight”. And that’s the truth.
And, with that in mind, should we be tabling these ideas ’till May? Hear me out – you can make your list and then set a reminder to look back at them in about 5 months. Because it seems to me, we should be thinking about all this change when the world outside is changing!
These winter months just don’t feel like a time when we should be thinking about growth and change. It feels like we should wait until the snow is melting, the ground is thawing, and the grass is growing. When nature is moving and growing, then we should too!
So, maybe save ’em for May? or June?
Just a thought.
Just for fun – here are a resolution-like goals and inspiration I’ve run into along the way this week:
- Start devouring the nicest things – don’t save your “nice” things for an unspecified future. Use the candle, drink the wine, etc.
- If you are a procrastinator – try the 2 minute rule (it’s a book!), which basically says if you can do the task in under 2 minutes, don’t delay, do it NOW.
- Your maximum potential isn’t to do the most work in everyday – Your maximum potential is creating a life that is peaceful and meaningful to you. It’s doing less, but better. Don’t be scared to do less.
- Be careful what you think… your life is a direct reflection of your thoughts.
- Do it wrong. Don’t get stuck thinking you need to do everything “the right way”. The best or right way is irrelevant if you end up doing nothing at all.
And, lastly, here’s another take on why just 1 New Years Resolution might be the best approach from Amber “The Whiskey Widow”:
