MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – A man free on bail for the September 2021 shooting death of a man in Moorhead is now facing a new homicide charge in Minneapolis.
Idris Abdillahi Haji-Mohamed, 28, was arrested for the Dec. 30 murder of a man who was found dead in a car.
Clay County Attorney Brian Melton said Abdillahi Haji-Mohamed managed to post a $175,000 bond in the Moorhead case.
“He went through a grand jury and was indicted for first degree murder up here. Ultimately, his bail up here was $1.75 million,” Melton said. “Rarely can a person post that full amount without any other conditions, or – if it’s conditional bail – they would come up with a percentage. Regularly, that’s 10 percent of that. So, he came up with approximately $175,000 to be able to bail out.”
Melton said that bail was the highest he’s seen in his years as a prosecutor.
“I know there’s a bondsman involved,” Melton said. “I couldn’t speculate where that money is (from). It’s obviously very significant. In my 20-plus years of being here, I haven’t seen someone bail out on that type of bail.”
There were conditions tied to the release, including that Abdillah Haji-Mohamed remain law-abiding. He wasn’t supposed to have a gun, and he was on electronic monitoring.
Melton said the battery of his ankle bracelet had recently gone dead and his whereabouts weren’t known until he was arrested for the Minneapolis homicide.
Melton said he’ll ask that the bond be revoked.
Another man charged in the Moorhead case has been convicted of aiding and abetting. A trial date for Abdillahi Haji-Mohamed in Clay County District Court has not been set.
Melton said he expects that case will be resolved before the Minneapolis homicide goes through the court system.
