FARGO (KFGO) – A man accused of killing a woman in Williams County, N.D. has been charged with the murder of his wife.
Jacob Long, 34, was arrested a day and a half after witnesses identified him as the man who killed 30-year-old Megan Lindquist outside a home several miles east of Buford.
According to court documents, early Wednesday morning, a man called law enforcement to say Long told him he killed Lindquist and her body was in a field. The caller said Long asked him to help bury her body.
Deputies said Lindquist had bruising on her neck and a gunshot wound to the head.
The owner of the property told deputies he heard the gunshot and saw Lindquist’s body laying next to his door. He said there was a pickup in his driveway with a man in the driver’s seat and another man in the bed of the pickup. The man in the bed of the pickup got out, looked at Lindquist’s body, ran through a shelterbelt, and then came back.
Later, the driver, Joseph Viall, told deputies the man in the box was Long and that Long had called him to ask for help getting his vehicle unstuck. Viall said when he got there, he saw Lindquist running and Long chasing her.
Viall said he drove up the driveway where Long told him the house was his aunt’s, but Viall didn’t believe him because Long and Lindquist are from Washington state, but had been living in the Williston area. He said Long put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger at least once, but there wasn’t a round in the chamber.
Long wanted a ride from Viall, but he refused and the two got into a fight. When the property owner came out, Long ran.
Deputies said they found a revolver in the bed of the pickup and spent shell casings from the same type of gun in Long and Lindquist’s car.
Deputies located Long at a residence that had been broken into in Buford. They called in the Williams County SWAT Team and the Northwest Crisis Negotiations Team.
Negotiators talked with Long for approximately an hour and were able to convince him to exit the residence without any harm to himself or first responders.
Long was taken into custody and remains in the Williams County Jail.
