NECHE, N.D. (KFGO/KNOX) – Nine people are being prosecuted for their involvement in a human smuggling attempt at the U.S.-Canadian border near Neche.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in the early morning hours of Dec. 2, border agents saw a suspicious vehicle parked near the border.
Later, a second vehicle on the Canadian side of the border was seen dropping off several people, who entered the U.S. on foot and got into the first vehicle.
Agents made a traffic stop and determined that all nine people, including the driver, were in the U.S. illegally. They were taken into custody and transported to the Pembina Border Station.
Two are being prosecuted for alien smuggling and re-entry after being removed.
The remaining seven are being prosecuted for entering the U.S. illegally.
