AIMES, Iowa (KFGO/WNAX) – Summit Carbon Solutions has reached agreements with over 50 percent of the landowners in South Dakota needed for the company’s liquid carbon dioxide pipeline.
Chief Operating Officer Jimmy Powell said there are a lot of considerations when getting the route approved.
“We’ve got environmental, biological, and cultural surveys,” Powell said. “When you’re looking for endangered species, wetlands, migratory bird production areas, and permanent water wells, there’s hundreds of areas we have to try to navigate around.”
Powell said they continue to negotiate the remaining route and hope to avoid using eminent domain.
Summit Carbon Solutions wants to build the pipeline to carry the liquid CO2 from 32 ethanol plants in the region to underground storage in central North Dakota.
