(UND Athletics) Eight North Dakota student-athletes were named to All-MVFC teams, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Nominations were submitted by each school’s sports information director and voting was conducted by the league’s head coaches, SID’s and select media members.
Five Fighting Hawks earned second team honors, while three UND student-athletes were also named to the honorable mention team.
Head Coach Bubba Schweigert was the runner-up for MVFC Coach of the Year, finishing with 97 votes. He trailed only John Stiegelmeier of South Dakota State with 156 votes.
Bo Belquist, WR, Jr., New Rockford, N.D., Second Team
Appeared in every game at receiver, with seven starts … Third in the MVFC with 5.2 receptions per game … Hauled in 63 receptions for 811 yards and six scores … Ranked as the No. 3 receiver in the league in receiving yards (811) and was No. 5 in receiving yards per game (67.6) … Tied for fourth in the MVFC in receiving touchdowns with six … Had a 61-yard punt return against South Dakota State … Entered the year as a second team All-MVFC selection by the conference and third teamer by Phil Steele.
Tyler Hoosman, RB, Gr., Plainfield, Ill., Second Team
Saw action at running back in every game, starting eight of them … Piled up 1,023 yards on 176 carries for an average of 5.81 yards per carry … Scored 12 rushing touchdowns to rank No. 2 in the conference … Sat No. 2 in the MVFC in total rushing yards with 1,023 and was No. 3 in rushing yards per game with 85.25 … Had six 100-yard rushing games this season, including a career-high 147 yards in the 48-31 win over Missouri State.
Donny Ventrelli, OL, Sr., St. Paul, Minn., Second Team
Started every game at left tackle … Helped North Dakota have a completion percentage of 67.1 percent to rank No. 3 in the conference … His blocking helped UND sit No. 2 in the conference in time of possession, averaging 33:23 of clock each game … Helped the Fighting Hawks find points 91.5 percent of the time in the red zone to rank No. 2 in the MVFC … Came into the year as a second team All-MVFC selection by both the conference and Phil Steele … Team captain.
Ben McNaboe, DL, Jr., Rogers, Minn., Second Team
Started all 12 games at defensive end … Ranked fourth in the MVFC in both tackles-for-loss per game (1.1) and sacks per game (0.54) … Led North Dakota in sacks with 6.5 … Also put down a team-high 13.0 TFL’s … Entered the year as a fourth team All-MVFC selection by Phil Steele.
C.J. Siegel, DB, Sr., La Crosse, Wis., Second Team
Started all 12 games at defensive back …Recorded 79 interception return yards to sit No. 3 in the conference … Had eight pass breakups to rank No. 4 in the MVFC … Scored on a 50-yard interception return in the 27-24 win at Northern Arizona … Averaged 29.1 yards per kick return to sit No. 1 in the MVFC and No. 7 nationally … Blocked two field goals … Ranks No. 5 on UND’s defense with 46.0 tackles … Came into the season as a second team All-MVFC selection by both the conference and Phil Steele.
Devon Krzanowski, LB, 5th, Fond du Lac, Wis., Honorable Mention
Started nine games at linebacker … Led the team in both total tackles (65.0) and solo tackles (35.0) … Second at UND in sacks (3.0) and TFL’s (5.5) … Put down a season-high 11 tackles at Weber State … Forced a fumble at NDSU and recovered a fumble at Nebraska … Entered the year as a second team All-MVFC selection by both the conference and Phil Steele.
Cade Peterson, P, 5th, Kewaskum, Wis., Honorable Mention
Had 36 punts on the season for 1,436 yards … Averaged 39.89 yards per boot … Pinned teams inside their own 20 on 13 occasions … Had a season-long of 59 yards at both Nebraska and at Northern Arizona … Allowed three returns on the season … Recorded a tackle at North Dakota State … Broke North Dakota’s Division I record for most punts in a career, now with 211 … Came into the year as a second team All-MVFC selection by both the conference and Phil Steele … Named Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 18.
Tommy Schuster, QB, Jr., Macomb, Mich., Honorable Mention
Started every game at quarterback … Ranks at No. 2 in the conference in completions per game with 20.92 … Also is No. 3in the MVFC in completion percentage (68.8) … No. 4 in the league in total offense with 229.7 yards per game … 251-for-365 passing for 2,730 yards and 20 touchdowns while only throwing five interceptions … Cemented his place in North Dakota history as the all-time record holder for passing yards in a career (6,819), all-time completions (635) and Division I TD passes thrown (44) … Named MVFC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 14.
