WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar spoke out against the brutal assault of the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
The Minnesota Democrat said the growing rhetoric targeting political leaders played a role in the hammer attack on Paul Pelosi.
Klobuchar said Pelosi has been vilified for years.
“The attacks on her, and this group of MAGA extremists have been not ending when Donald Trump left office.”
Klobuchar also said that extending security to the families of top U.S. officials should be strongly considered.
The man accused of fracturing Paul Pelosi’s skull with a hammer was reportedly asking, “where’s Nancy?” and carrying zip ties like some of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol rioters.
Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel argues that politicians on both sides of the aisle have faced increasing violence and threats in recent years.
