For more than 20 years, KFGO has had the humbled pleasure of broadcasting from RDO Caters Taters. This annual event is simple in concept. The fine folks at RDO cook up a batch of โPound-tatersโ (one pound potatoes) and then offer a variety of toppings to those who stop in to have lunch. Those hungry spud fans pay for a ticket and 100% of the proceeds go to a local charity. That charity also gets the benefit of getting to know RDO and RDO employees getting to know them.
The funds raised during the past 22 years is staggering. Huge donations that boost more than just an operating account โ they boost morale too.
KFGO plays a simple part. We get the word out and remind listeners to buy tickets, get in on the raffle or order takeout for the entire office. On the day of Caters Taters, we broadcast live from the venue. Jack and Sandy, Jack and Amy and now Amy and JJ. We also get the honor of walking the first potato through the line. Most of the time, that pound-tater gets topped with the special topping invented for that particular year.
You have probably attend over the years. Maybe you had a friend who picked up tickets or someone from work grabbed you a loaded potato and it landed with a thud on your desk.
Our ask this year is that you go again. And get a raffle ticket. And tell your friends. You get a great lunch and, this year, you support an amazing cause as The Jeremiah Program of Fargo-Moorhead has been selected. Check out the podcast below for more information and It Takes Two will see you on Wednesday, November 2nd at the Delta Hotel in Fargo!
