BARNESVILLE, Minn. (KFGO) – A Clay County Sheriff’s deputy escaped injury when an impaired driver hit the patrol SUV he was sitting in Tuesday.
The deputy was assisting the Minnesota State Patrol and Barnesville emergency personnel at the scene of a fire on Highway 34 near I-94 just before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. He had the emergency lights activated and was blocking the roadway, when a small SUV struck the passenger side rear of the squad vehicle.
The deputy was not injured in the crash and rendered aid to the male driver of the SUV.
After the man was treated at the scene by Barnesville ambulance, he was turned over to the custody of State Patrol for suspected driving while impaired and transported to the Clay County Correctional Center.
The State Patrol is handling the investigation into the crash.
