There is power in being “American-Made”. What began as a small post-college side-hustle job to make ends meet, has now expanded into a full-scale, sustainable wood manufacturing plant. Seth Carlson is the founder and president of Dakota Timber Company, who started in 2013. They are in the business of selling wood goods that tell a story.
Dakota Timber Company is helping impact the wood industry, utilizing sustainably sourced wood to manufacture a variety of Made In America wood products. The founding mission was to introduce sustainable wood products into the construction industry to curb deforestation. Dakota Timber still holds to that mission of sustainability today. The official mission has evolved to include efforts to produce 100% American-made wood products while maintaining a commitment to environmental responsibility.
In 2021, his company processed over half a million board feet of regionally sourced lumber which is equivalent to around two million pounds of wood.
Join my conversation with Seth, as he shares his story of choosing the entrepreneur lifestyle with little money, but a great passion to make a difference. He has an inspiring story, walking us through the early days of the start-up, what it takes to scale, some of the challenges he’s faced, advice for not giving up, and his encouragement for other entrepreneurs to do something they believe in to impact their community.
