CANDO, N.D. (KFGO) – Towner County Sheriff Andrew Hillier said a dispute between brothers led to a triple murder-suicide in a wheat field near the Towner-Benson County line northwest of Devils Lake on Aug. 29.
Hillier said preliminary autopsy reports and evidence at the scene indicate Robert Bracken, 59, fatally shot his son Justin, 34, brother Richard, 64, and Doug Dulmage, 56, before taking his own life.
The autopsy shows Dulmage and Justin and Richard Bracken were all shot multiple times. Robert Bracken had one, self-inflicted gunshot wound and was in possession of a .357-caliber revolver.
Hillier said the dispute between Robert and Richard Bracken had been going on for a week or more before the incident.
The Brackens worked for Dulmage and were working on harvesting the field.
