MINNEAPOLIS – A St. Paul teenager is charged with murder for a fatal shooting at a downtown Minneapolis light rail station.
17-year-old Tashawn Powell is accused of killing a 15-year-old boy at the Nicollet Mall rail station Tuesday. Police and a civilian bystander attempted lifesaving medical care, but the boy died at the scene. Police found Powell, who was still carrying a handgun matching the caliber of a discharged casing at the scene of the shooting.
Powell admitted to police that he used the gun to shoot the victim. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is seeking to have Powell tried as an adult.
