CHURCHS FERRY, N.D. (KFGO) – The tiny town of Churchs Ferry will cease to exist later this summer. The town will officially dissolve following a vote by the few remaining residents who agreed to the decision.
Ramsey County Commission Chairman Adam Leiphon says the final step in the process is publishing a formal notice of the community’s end as an incorporated city effective September 1.
According to the 2020 census, 9 people were still living in the town.
Churchs Ferry was one of several communities that were bought out by government agencies impacted by the expansion of nearby Devils Lake and the flooding that has occurred.
Churchs Ferry was founded in 1886. More than 400 homes around the lake have been relocated or destroyed as a result of the flooding.
