June 24 storm development in northeastern North Dakota (Ryan Mauk, KFGO storm chaser)
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – The National Weather Service has confirmed 6 tornadoes Friday afternoon and evening in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.
The most powerful was an EF-2 tornado with winds as strong as 115 mph between Rochert to Menahga, Minnesota in Becker and Wadena Counties. The twister was likely wrapped in damaging downburst winds for portions of its nearly 31-mile path, causing property damage, downing power lines, and numerous trees.
An EF-1 tornado with winds of 105 mph was on the ground for 4 miles as it tracked east-northeastward across North Twin Lake and near Naytahwaush in Mahnomen County. It tore up trees and damaged several homes.
EF-0 tornadoes were reported in Cavalier, Grand Forks, and Nelson counties in northeastern North Dakota with wind speeds of 75-80 mph.
