When I read the story Sunday morning of the 5 best #burgers worth a drive in Minnesota I was intrigued. I’m not much of a traveler and specifically I don’t consider myself a “foodie” Never have and never will. Intentionally driving to eat at a restaurant isn’t much of my way to roll. One of the 5 best burgers was at the Sun Lite Bar and Grill near Detroit Lakes.
It just so happened that day we were planning a trip to Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge north of Detroit Lakes.
It was a postcard type Sunday morning on the edge of the lake. We pulled in and just felt like this was going to be a nice stop. I was right. We sat on the patio on the edge of the lake. No wind. Sun shining. Light Sunday morning 11:30 a.m. crowd.
The menu was “interesting” with the most obvious a 3 patty burger of beef, elk and bison.
On a Friday night I’d have given it a battle. On a Sunday morning I had to hold back. Glad I did.
I decided on a Pepper Jack Bacon Cheese Burger and was not disappointed.
I’ll cut to the chase. The burger was top notch. Hand pattied beef locally from Hoffman meats is hard to beat.
Fries hot. Setting and scenery 2nd to none. *note if it’s not a grade A weather day. The seating is in a bar type atmosphere).
Top 5 in Minnesota? Maybe I can’t judge that. Worth a return trip? Absolutely!
