James Van Raden
FARGO (KFGO) – A former Fargo businessman has been sentenced to 17 1/2 years in prison for attempted child sex trafficking and sharing child pornography.
US District Judge Peter Welte also placed 48-year-old James Van Raden of Moorhead on supervised probation for life after his release from prison. Van Raden pleaded guilty last February.
The investigation determined that Van Raden tried to solicit a 10-year-old girl for commercial sex from late 2019 until July of 2020.
An undercover officer was actually communicating with Van Raden, who claimed he was looking for a tutor for his daughter. He set up payment from a third party through the Venmo app.
The case was investigated by West Fargo Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
