BURNSVILLE, Minn. (KFGO) – The Better Business Bureau (BBB) says recent college graduates are often vulnerable to scams. The BBB’s Bao Vang says grads are making big transitions.
Searching for a new job finding a new place to live, and possibly moving to a new city, scammers know this, and they’re eager to take advantage of their inexperience to either steal their identities or take their money.
Vang urges grads to know the terms of their student loans, be wary of unsolicited messages about unpaid tuition, do research before accepting jobs or job interviews, and watch out for rental scams.
As recent college graduates prepare to make it in the world on their own, the BBB warns of potential scams aiming to rip them off. Vang says it is vital to know your student loan terms and be wary of unsolicited messages about unpaid tuition. Some con artists contact graduates, or their parents, claiming some of their tuition was left unpaid. The scammers will threaten that the graduate’s degree will be revoked if not paid immediately.
Vang also recommends that grads do their research before accepting jobs or job interviews and watch out for rental scams.
