I keep thinking of the gradual rise in gas prices numbing us with every fill. Remember back in March after the Ukraine invasion prices jumped to $3.40 a gallon. News stories were popping and the strategic reserve was tapped to reduce the pressure and prices.
Boy that didn’t work. It’s now over $4 a gallon and not going down anytime soon.
Back in March I made sure my tires were at proper inflation, reduced the weight in my Expedition and reduced my speed. That’s right. On an I94 trip during March I noted how at 70mph there were plenty others driving slower. Very obvious drivers were also trying to increase fuel economy by easing off the gas pedal.
Last weekend. With gas prices pushing $3.85 it was 75mp+ for most. Save for a few 18 wheelers. Speaking of which. Talk to a truck driver and it’s now $1000 to fill. It used to be $750. On a trip to and from Seattle he fills 2x each way. His trucking cost has gone up $1000 a week.
Personally by reducing my speed 15 mph I increased my fuel economy by 5 miles per gallon. But we’re a world built on speed and we pay more for high speed internet and faster phones. That’s our own fault.
There’s an old story about a frog in a pot of water and the heat gradually warms up the water and the frog doesn’t know it’s boiling….until it’s to late.
