WINNIPEG, MB – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks topped the Winnipeg Goldeyes 9-7 Sunday afternoon.
The RedHawks got on the board early in the top of the first inning as a John Silviano RBI groundout drove in Peter Maris to take a 1-0 lead. Christian Correa knocked in Drew Ward and Kevonte Mitchell to make it 3-0.
Fargo-Moorhead added a run on a Maris solo home run in the top of the second inning to make it 4-0.
Winnipeg got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Max Murphy drove a solo shot over the wall to cut the RedHawks lead to 4-1.
The ‘Hawks added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning starting with Darian Sandford scoring on a Mitchell sacrifice fly. Leo Pena drove in Drew Ward on an RBI double to take a 6-1 RedHawks lead.
The Goldeyes answered in the bottom of the fourth starting with a solo home run by David Washington to make it 6-2 RedHawks. Raul Navarro hit a 2RBI single to narrow the RedHawks lead to 6-4. Navarro would score on an Eric Rivera 3-run home run that lifted the Goldeyes to a 7-6 lead.
The RedHawks got the bats going again in the top of the fifth inning starting with a solo home run of the bat of Jacob Bockelie that tied the game at 7-7. Maris gave the ‘Hawks the 8-7 lead with his second solo shot of the game.
Fargo-Moorhead added a run in the top of the ninth inning as Ward knocked in Dexter to take a 9-7 lead.
The RedHawks return to action to start a series with the Monarchs in Kansas City Tuesday night, pregame at 6:40 p.m. first pitch 7:00 p.m. on 740 The Fan and 107.3FM.
