FARGO, N.D. – (NDSU Athletics) North Dakota State wide receiver Christian Watson and offensive lineman Cordell Volson were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft held April 28-30 in Las Vegas. They are the 10th and 11th players drafted out of NDSU in the past nine years since 2014.
The Green Bay Packers selected Watson 34th overall with the second pick of the second round Friday, April 29, and the Cincinnati Bengals took Volson 136th overall with the 31st pick of the fourth round on Saturday, April 30.
Following the draft, NDSU tight end Josh Babicz and defensive end Brayden Thomas agreed to free agent deals. Babicz will sign with the Carolina Panthers and Thomas will sign with the Los Angeles Rams.
This is the second straight year and third time in NDSU’s Division I era that the Bison have multiple draft picks in the same year. Watson is NDSU’s fifth top-100 pick since 2014.
North Dakota State, winner of nine of the past 11 NCAA Division I football championships, had 12 players with NFL clubs during the 2021 season.
