GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Despite having a legal number of signatures, the Grand Forks Auditor’s Office has ruled that the petition on the Fufeng project is not sufficient.
Finance Director Maureen Storstad sent a letter to the committee behind the opposition that rejected the documents, which attempted to put the issue of the proposed corn milling plant to a vote.
Storstad said she based her decision on a recommendation by the city attorney who determined that the petitions did not meet the requirements. Storstad mentioned other issues, such as duplicate or illegible signatures, incomplete addresses, and signatures from people outside city limits.
Opponents of the Fufeng project submitted over 5,300 signatures, about 1,700 more than were required. They have a week to make corrections.
