ST. PAUL, Minn. – The state of Minnesota will pay $700 million over three years to care for the most seriously-ill Minnesotans, under a bill Gov. Tim Walz signed Friday which continues “reinsurance” to hold down health insurance premiums.
The bill is strongly supported by Republicans.
“[The bill] helps stabilize the individual health insurance market,” said Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller. “It helps keep costs down and it provides access for Minnesotans.”
Rochester Representative Tina Liebling said Republicans keep giving money to insurance companies, when all Minnesotans should be able to enroll in MinnesotaCare.
Democrats also said “reinsurance” does nothing to control health care costs which are driving up premiums.
