FARGO (KFGO) – A 45-year-old suspect in a suburban Minneapolis homicide was taken into custody at Fargo’s Dakota Park apartment complex near Essentia Hospital after a tip came in Tuesday morning. Fargo Police say James Nyonteh was arrested without incident. The tenants of the apartment were known to Nyonteh and were cooperative with the Fargo Police Department during the arrest.
Police in Champlin, MN were searching for the suspect in a fatal stabbing there Monday night. Authorities say a 35-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the front yard of a residence about 9:30 p.m. Champlin Police Chief Ty Schmidt said officers and firefighters from the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department attempted life-saving efforts but were unsuccessful.
A K-9 team from Brooklyn Park and the Minnesota State Patrol air unit helped law enforcement from several agencies search for the suspect, but no one was found. Officials say Nyonteh’s vehicle was found abandoned in neighboring Brooklyn Park.
Champlin Police released the name of the stabbing victim this morning. She is 35-year-old Peachu Yates of Champlin. Yates and Nyonteh were married.
