FARGO (KFGO) – Food shelf operators will tell you one of the most requested items by clients is milk, and one of the hardest items to obtain and distribute is milk.
Officials with Great Plains Food Bank say Cass Clay Creamery has stepped up to help meet some of the demand. The company has donated over 24-thousand individual containers of shelf-stable milk. Scott Boll is General Manager for Cass-Clay Fargo. He says the milk – sold under the name “Giving Cow”- has a similar taste to regular milk and has the same nutritional qualities.
Great Plains Food Bank President and CEO, Melissa Sobolik says the shelf-stable milk can be stored for up to a year, though she’s not expecting to
see it stay around long.
“We’re doing a couple thousand of those a week so it’ll go quickly. We’re also opening this up to our food pantries and shelters so they’ll be able to place an order so the milk can get directly on their shelves quickly. This means the difference between families not getting milk, or dairy products, and them getting the products they need,” says Sobolik.
Wednesday’s donation is the second of three donations planned for this year by Cass Clay.
