ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – Minnesota native and former Vikings’ offensive lineman Matt Birk is running for Lieutenant Governor, alongside Republican gubernatorial frontrunner Doctor Scott Jensen.
The two made the announcement in a football-themed video posted to Jenson’s Twitter page, in which they said it’s the “fourth quarter in Minnesota,” and asked voters who they wanted to “have the ball.” They also alluded to DFL incumbent governor Tim Walz’ “halftime in Minnesota” comments from his 2018 campaign, saying his policies have harmed small businesses and led to increases in violent crime.
In response, the DFL issued a statement saying the “Jensen-Birk ticket’s far-right extremism is out of touch with Minnesota values.”
