Third goalie in league history to win award three straight weeks
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — It’s a hat trick of a different kind for No. 7 North Dakota, as senior goaltender Zach Driscoll was named NCHC Goaltender of the Week for the third straight week on Monday, as announced by the league office.
The senior becomes only the third goalie in the nine-year history of the league to earn the honor in three straight weeks. He joins former UND netminder Cam Johnson in 2015-16 and Ludvig Persson of Miami in 2020-21 as the only players to accomplish the feat.
Driscoll put together a pair of sparkling performances to help lead UND to a sweep over Minnesota Duluth at AMSOIL Arena for the first time since 2015, stopping over 30 shots in both contests.
In Friday’s 4-3 win, the Apple Valley, Minn., native made a season-high 36 saves before following it up with a 33-save performance in the finale to secure the 3-2 victory and the sweep. 18 of those 33 saves on Saturday night came in the final period, including a massive stop on Kobe Roth with the glove late in the third period.
Over the month of February, Driscoll has a 5-1-0 record with a 1.82 goals against average, .939 save percentage and a shutout to help the Fighting Hawks jump back into first place in the NCHC standings with four games to play.
No. 7 North Dakota will close out the home portion of the regular season this weekend against No. 6 Western Michigan.
