ST. PAUL, Minn. – Tuesday is the deadline for the legislature to agree on new legislative and congressional district boundaries to reflect changes in the 2020 census, but with a divided government there’s no sign of agreement between Republicans and Democrats.
It appears the decision will fall to the courts, as it has every decade for the past 50 years except one.
“Everyone is eagerly looking forward to seeing those,” Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller said of the expected new maps. “At this point, Senate Republicans are just focused on the 2022 legislative session and we’ll worry about the maps and the election after the session.”
That aside, the upcoming election will influence much of what Republicans and Democrats do during the 2022 session.
