FARGO (KFGO) – A second assistant Cass County state’s attorney is running for state’s attorney.
Kim Hegvik wants to succeed State’s Attorney Birch Burdick, who is not seeking another term. Burdick was first elected in 1998.
Hegvik has been a prosecutor in the office for over 15 years. Hegvik says she’d push for alternatives to putting people in jail if they’re not a danger to the public.
Assistant State’s Attorney Ryan Younggren announced in early January that he was running for state’s attorney. He’s been with the office for 14 years. He was a deputy district attorney in Denver prior to that.
Younggren says he’s tried more than 100 criminal cases and has worked to build relationships with victims and law enforcement.
