Rick Spielman & Mike Zimmer
MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – Change is on the way for the Minnesota Vikings.
This morning the team announced the firing of both coach Mike Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman, per NFL Network Reporter Tom Pelissero.
Zimmer was hired in 2014 after he spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals. In his eight seasons with the Vikings, Zimmer had a 72-56-1 record and made three trips to the postseason with two playoff wins. Spielman joined the Vikings in 2006 as vice president of player personnel and was promoted to general manager in 2012. The Vikings made the playoffs six times during Spielman’s time as an executive.
Top head-coaching options during the hiring season are Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
