My kids asked me about my favorite Christmas, Christmas traditions, presents and events. Sorry to disappoint but I can’t pick out a single tradition, present or Christmas. My easy reply is, “this one right here and now.” Christmas present is my favorite.
Then my thoughts drift to the reason for Christmas. It’s the birth of Jesus. Whatever you celebrate is your choice. I celebrate Christmas. But I wonder what is the celebration for an atheist? If it’s about friends and family by all means we should celebrate friends and family every single day right? Not to dig into it on Christmas but I’m thankful for the Biblical explanation. “For unto us a child is born” Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
For God so loved the world. John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
There’s so many verses which acknowledge what Christians are celebrating. I’m thankful. Like the rest our Christmas is smaller than the past. Funerals will do that. Like the rest of you there’s challenges and struggles of family, work, health etc. But I’m thankful for the promise of Christmas.
The hope of Jesus.
