FARGO, N.D. (KCND) – The Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead says 2021 has turned out to be a positive year, despite the troubles resulting from COVID.
Kim Hochhalter, president of the HBAFM, says favorable interest rates helped off-set some of the concerns. Hochhalter says there was also the need to understand that some things were simply out of the contractors’ hands, particularly as it pertains to the supply chain.
“It’s kind of interesting when you really look into why your HVAC companies [are charging more],” Hochhalter said. “And it’s a little wire that they have in the tubing that they use for the venting and stuff that they can’t get anymore, or it’s tile that’s been out on a ship for six months or whatever, and things like that. It’s just been a very interesting year and learning lots about how we get our supplies from A to Z.”
Hochhalter says 1,029 housing construction permits were issued to builders this year in the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo area. She says even with the pandemic, it marks an increase of 109 permits compared to 2020.
