FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Hundreds of people attended the annual RDO Caters Taters for Charity event Tuesday.
The event included a potato luncheon, take-out dining option, door prizes, and a raffle with all proceeds going to a local charity. For a nominal donation, guests enjoy a delicious lunch featuring a one-pound baked potato with a choice of a variety of tasty toppings, a beverage, and dessert.
This year, RDO chose the non-profit BIO Girls. BIO Girls is a self-esteem-building program for girls grades 2-6. A BIO Girls session meets for 12 sessions, 90 minutes each as girls are taught life skills, Christian non-denominational devotions, small-group mentoring, and non-competitive physical activity.
“Everyone always asks why second through sixth grade. Why not middle or high school? The research shows that girls’ self-esteem is highest in third grade and then plummets to the lowest in sixth grade. So we’re working with these girls at a very transformative time in their life where their self-esteem is typically dropping. We’re providing them with lessons, relationships, and tools that they can use to help maintain a healthy level of self-esteem as they continue to grow,” says BIO Girls Founder Missy Heilman.
“BIO Girls is a fabulous charity that we feel honored to support. We’re really proud to say that 100% of everything we raise today whether it be ticket sales or the raffle is going straight to BIO Girls,” said RDO CEO Tim Curoe.
R.D. Offutt Company is one of the largest potato growers in the nation.
The one-pound potatoes enjoyed at the luncheon were provided by a farm in O’Neill, NE.
