MINNESOTA – Around a half-million Minnesota hunters are in the field Saturday for the firearms deer season opener.
Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Sarah Strommen says they are expecting strong harvest numbers in most parts of the state. The D-N-R’s Pat Rivers says deer hunting is big business in Minnesota with retail sales exceeding 850-million dollars per year.
Rivers says small towns throughout the state depend on tourism and deer hunting plays a big part of it. Conservation officers urge everyone to wear blaze orange or pink and hunt safely.
