(Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arrandondo)
MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo has presented a 27-million-dollar budget request to hire additional officers.
Arradondo says his department has lost nearly 300 officers since last year – while, at the same time, a violent crime surge has hit the city. The chief says the staffing problem has depleted the resources needed to respond adequately. He says the department’s patrol bureau is missing the staff equivalent of an entire precinct and has fallen to the lowest number of officers he has seen in 30 years with the department.
The patrol bureau is tasked with responding to 9-1-1 calls.
