GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A week removed from its first draw of the season at Austin Peay, the University of North Dakota (2-5-1) will open conference play when it hosts Kansas City and Oral Roberts at Bronson Field on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
The Fighting Hawks and the Roos will kickoff at 3 p.m. Central, while the weekend finale versus the Golden Eagles will begin at 1 p.m. Central. Both matches will stream free on UND Insider. Live stats will also be available for fans to follow.
In its non-conference finale in Clarksville, Tenn., North Dakota surrendered an early goal after Madi Livingston stopped her first of five shots on target. However, freshman Haley Patterson found the caromed shot in the box and placed it in the back of the net for a 1-0 Govs lead. 26 minutes later, the Fighting Hawks equalized and tied the match 1-1, forcing the Governors to score an own goal.
UND finished the match with four shots on goal, including two in overtime. The UND defense only allowed one shot on frame in overtime.
Kansas City enters the contest with a 2-8 record, having dropped its last seven games after recording back-to-back wins over Missouri State on Aug. 22 and Southern Illinois on Aug. 27. The Roos are a tested squad, having taken on Wisconsin, Creighton, Iowa, Tulsa, and Oklahoma, and battled in each outing. Though scoreless in its last four matches, KC scored eight goals in its first six matches. Kassi Ginther has tallied four goals in 10 appearances.
Oral Roberts has posted a 3-5-1 mark during its preseason with wins over Historically Black Colleges Arkansas Pine Bluff (5-0) and Jackson State (2-1). ORU also defeated Northwest Oklahoma State, 3-0. The Golden Eagles have scored in eight of their nine matches this season with a +1 scoring margin, missing the back of the net against Creighton. Pamela Caballeros leads Oral Roberts with five goals and three assists for a total of 12 points.
The University of North Dakota will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 10, when it takes on North Dakota State at Dacotah Field in Fargo.
