FARGO, N.D. KFGO – (KFGO) -The Fargo School Board shot down a motion to remove the mask mandate in schools on a 7-2 vote.
The board approved the mandate in August before schools started and it has met with opposition from several board members and parents who say they should make the decision about whether their children wear masks.
During public comment before the vote, Fargo school parent Kristin Sharbono, said her kids are being hurt physically and mentally by the mask order.
She said she is “fearful of the slippery slope,” and said history repeats itself, comparing the mandate to something similar to Nazi Germany.
School Board President Rebecca Knutson stood by the mandate. She said she would continue to support the decision that the board made to follow the guidance of Public Health experts.
The director of Fargo Cass Public Health, Desi Fleming said COVID 19 cases among children are increasing across North Dakota.
