Carson Hegerle had many enticing suitors, but the strength of the Herd wound up being too great.
The dynamic West Fargo wide receiver has verbally committed to North Dakota State. Hegerle tweeted out the commitment Wednesday afternoon.
Hegerle is a 3-star recruit and the number one overall Class of 2022 prospect in North Dakota. The outstanding senior has been honored as an all-state selection twice for the Packers. He received several from FBS schools, including Wyoming, Toledo, Utah State, UNLV, Nevada, and Army.
Hegerle is classified as an athlete for recruiting service purposes, and it’s easy to see why. He is a playmaking dynamo with the ball in his hands as a receiver and return specialist, and knows how to weave around traffic when he makes an interception on defense.
His decision to commit to NDSU was undoubtedly influence by his family, as his father Erik an excellent safety for the Bison from 1990-93, where he finished with eight career interceptions. Carson’s mom Shelly was a sprinter on the Bison track team. His older sister Kalli was a member of NDSU’s volleyball team from 2018-19.
Carson is an accomplished basketball player for West Fargo as well. Hegerle averaged 18 points per game as the Packers won their first title in over thirty years in beating Minot.
