MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson says he hopes the changes he is making in his department’s immigrant detention policies will make new residents from other countries more likely to report crimes.
Hutchinson has issued a directive to limit the use of immigration detainer warrants that keep people behind bars when they would normally be released.
He has also closed to U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement office at the jail and stopped alerting the federal agency when undocumented inmates are being released
