Williston Firefighters get ready to travel to Louisiana to help in Hurricane Ida relief (ND Dept of Emergency Services)
BISMARCK (KFGO) – A group of North Dakota firefighters will be traveling to Louisiana this week to assist with recovery efforts from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Ida.
Gov. Doug Burgum has approved an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), allowing a team from the Bismarck Rural, Williston, and Dickinson Fire Departments to deploy equipment and personnel for operations along the Gulf Coast. An EMAC is an emergency response mechanism that allows states to send personnel, equipment and commodities to assist with response and recovery efforts in other states.
Two firefighters from Bismarck Rural and four from Williston Fire Department departed Wednesday, Sept. 1, and convoyed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On Thursday, four firefighters from the Dickinson Fire Department and another four firefighters from Williston Fire Department, as well as one Williston Rural Fire Department firefighter and a City of Williston public works employee departed for Baton Rouge to assist with recovery efforts.
