PIERRE, S.D. – Two South Dakota Native American tribes will receive state funding for their 9-1-1 telecommunications centers.
Cabinet Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety Craig Price sad that one-time funding will be available to 9-1-1 centers statewide for equipment upgrades and other infrastructure needs and that “Reliable 9-1-1 communications is a necessity everywhere in our state and this funding helps meet that need.”
In March, the Oglala Sioux Tribe received approval for funding of $86,240 in funds from the state’s 9-1-1 Coordination Board. Another $46,449.80 to the Cheyenne River Tribal DPS was approved for funding by the same board Wednesday.
The state 9-1-1 Program and Coordination Board are part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
