WATERTOWN, S.D. (KFGO) – A Moorhead man charged with murder in the 2019 death of a Watertown woman was extradited to South Dakota and is now being held in the Codington County Detention Center.
18-year-old Gage Stevenson is being held on $500,000 cash only bond. Police took Stevenson into custody at a Moorhead home on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was then booked into the Clay County Jail awaiting extradition to South Dakota.
Stevenson is charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder.
He’s accused of killing 43-year-old Dawn Meyer on September 17, 2019 by swerving over the centerline of Highway 212 and intentionally crashing his vehicle into Meyer’s oncoming car. Watertown police estimate he was traveling over 100 mph in a 35 mph zone, and that his actions were an attempt to take his own life.
Stevenson was seriously injured, but was not charged until this week when a Codington County Grand Jury returned the First Degree Murder indictment.
