
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – A weekend tragedy for the University of Minnesota hockey coach and his family. The U announced Sunday that Bob Motzko’s 20-year-old son died in a Saturday night vehicle crash in the west Twin Cities metro.
There are still few details on the crash that killed Mack Motzko and one other person.
It happened in Orono, with the 51-year-old driver suffering critical injuries when the car veered off the road and struck several trees.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol contributed to the crash. So far, charges are not filed.
Coach Motzko sent out a message on Twitter to honor his son, calling him his hero.
Many members of the hockey community displayed hockey sticks outside of their homes Sunday night in silent tribute to the lives lost.
