MINNEAPOLIS – A report from Minneapolis police shows criminal activity is growing rapidly around the University of Minnesota campus – 40 percent over the last year.
Researchers say the increase is coming at an unusual time of the year. Criminal activity normally grows at the end of summer and early fall because new students are arriving. A police spokesperson says the people arriving on campus in August and September often aren’t aware of security measures they need to take.
One neighborhood near the campus – the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood – experienced a 60-percent increase in crime over the past year.
