FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Those fighter jets flying fast and sometimes low over the Fargo area are not practicing for the Fargo AirSho next month.
The four Marine Corps F-18 Super Hornets were part of a one-day joint training exercise. In military language, it’s called Joint Power Integration, rather than planning and conducting military operations separate from each other. It involved the Marine’s F-18’s, the 119th North Dakota Air National Guard Operations Group responsible for MQ-9 drones, and a air unit of the North Dakota Army National Guard that flies the Black hawk Helicopter.
It’s been nearly 15-years since the 119th Wing, known as the Happy Holligans, ended its long history as a fighter mission in Fargo and with that, so was the sight and sound of those jets. Lt. Colbert says the F-18’s attracted a lot of attention while here. So much so, even National Guard personnel at the base ran out to get a look at the new fighters.
