marijauna seizure at Portal Port of Entry (Customs and Border Protection)
PORTAL, ND (KFGO) – Last Thursday was a busy day for U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials at the Port of Entry in Portal. One man was arrested and jailed in Burke County after a major marijuana seizure.
Officials seized more than $6-million worth of marijuana, plus more than $645,000 in unreported Canadian money. Customs and Border Protection says a commercial shipment disguised as plastic containers arrived in Portal and it was discovered that there was 3,765 pounds of marijuana inside. The unreported Canadian currency was found during an inspection of a passenger vehicle trying to enter the U-S.
Anyone may carry any amount of currency into or out of the U-S, but if it’s more than $10,000, it needs to be reported to Customs and Border Protection.
