FARGO (KFGO) – The YWCA of Cass-Clay has announced that they are planning to buy and remodel a space that will help and house domestic abuse victims.
The building neighboring the YWCA is owned by the Union of Sisters of the Presentation, the YWCA decided it would be best to purchase the building to better provide support for abuse survivors.
“We all want a place to call home, there’s a stigma out there about people on welfare. I can tell you after 13 years at YWCA I’ve not met one woman who wants to be in the situation she’s in,” YWCA Executive Director Erin Prochnow said.
The new housing will be called ‘Lantern Light’ and will house approximately 60 people affected by domestic violence. It was helped by a generous donation from one of the biggest philanthropist’s in the country.
“Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, she gave away more than 4.1 billion dollars to 384 organizations across the country. Her team looked into over 6,500 non-profit and school organizations across the country. YWCA Cass-Clay is honored to be one of those recognized,” said Prochnow.
The ‘Lantern Light’ housing facility is expected to welcome women and their children in early 2023.
