Trey Lance is starting to take his first football reps with the San Francisco 49ers during rookie minicamp this weekend.
San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and Lance each played in the Football Championship Subdivision and won the Walter Payton Award, something that has brought an early common connection between the two.
“I got to meet him (Garoppolo) over the last couple of days which is awesome, him and the rest of the quarterbacks in the room,” said Lance. “Jimmy actually said that in his first text to me, just that it’s going to be awesome to have another FCS guy in the room, so he’s another guy that’s obviously been in a similar position to me, having been you know where I am.”
Lance spoke with the media ahead of practice on what he learned at NDSU and a look ahead to his progression in the NFL.
The 49ers open the season at Detriot on Sunday, September 12. They’ll host Carson Wentz and the Indianapolis Colts for Sunday Night Football on October 24 and host the Minnesota Vikings on November 28.
