We were chatting about old time music on The Morning Crew and we all had our stories about AM stations growing up.
Don Haney (The Dazzleman) would tune in to KAAY Little Rock, Ark. With his ear tuned to Beaker Street with host Clyde Clifford. He’d find KOMA out of Oklahoma
Many listeners mentioned AM 890 WLS Chicago along with Bonnie and Tom.
I used to pull in Denver KOA 850 at night and listen to Denver Nuggets basketball with Alex English, Lafayette “Fat” Leaver and Wayne Cooper. Heck I even sent away letters to their team explaining how a kid in LaMoure, ND was enjoying Nuggets basketball laying in bed at night. They sent back autographed pictures!
Later on that morning I was pulling up AM 790 on the app with my blue tooth earbuds thinking how sweet and smooth this is. To have KFGO apps and blue tooth ear buds.
Then I put them down. It was buffering. Then my Bluetooth disconnected.
I grabbed one of my dozen. Yes dozen transistor radio’s. Turned it on AM 790. Smiled. Yep. AM radio transistors even in the world of app, mobile, and bluetooth?
Still can’t beat a click “on” and a transistor radio.
