North Dakota’s spring football season is coming to a grinding halt in a short period of time.
On March 21, Illinois State opted out of their remaining schedule, which left UND with one fewer game as they were scheduled to play at Illinois State on April 10.
ISU head coach Brock Spack cited injuries within the team, made it difficult to play the remainder of their spring season.
On Friday, UND’s contest with Youngstown State was shelved due to a positive COVID-19 test and contract tracing within the team.
72 hours later, UND lost their game with Missouri State.
Fighting Hawks head coach Bubba Schweigert addressed the media this afternoon following the announcement and gave insight into what the program has done since Friday. “We made a decision to do was to increase our testing activities and therefore tested our guys over the weekend and we received news that we have multiple positives within the program,” said Schweigert. “So our decision right now is to pause activities and we just won’t have an opportunity to practice this week.”
The spring season is set to come to a close on April 17 for the final game of the regular season before playoffs.
UND will be unable to reschedule its contest with Missouri State.
The Fighting Hawks final game of the spring season is slated for April 17 in Youngstown, Ohio against the Penguins.
