MADISON, S.D. (NSAA) – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) held its indoor track & field conference meet on Feb. 21 at Ruth Donohoe Fieldhouse on the campus of Mount Marty in Yankton.
Dickinson State won their third consecutive NSAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field conference title with 179 points. Dakota State was second with 139 points. Viterbo edged out Valley City State by three points (98-95) to finish third. Waldorf was fifth with 41 points. Bellevue Neb. also competed in the meet.
The Blue Hawks established the North Star Athletic Association men’s team record points of 215.5 points to win the team title. The Trojans were second with 195 points. The V-Hawks edged the Vikings by one point (55-54) to finish third. The Warriors placed fifth with 30.5 points, while the Bruins were sixth with one point.
The postseason awards included Most Valuable Field and Athlete Performer were presented after the conclusion of the conference meet. Coach-of-the-Year award and Champions of Character recipients from each North Star conference school were also honored.
Faith Brennan and Dane Allen of Dickinson State, Traia Hubbard of Dakota State were named to NSAA Most Valuable Field Performer.
Ashley Caswell of Viterbo earned the NSAA Most Valuable Track Athlete of the Meet. Alex Derr of Dakota State claimed the most valuable track athlete honor.
DiSU Shayne Wittkopp was named to NSAA Indoor Track & Field Women’s and Men’s Coach-of-the-Year. It was the third straight year that Wittkopp was selected to the conference women’s coach-of-the-year award.
